Reflection

I had no idea that this Globalization class was so intense. It was such a long ongoing process and so very insightful. At the beginning of the semster Martha and Jerry taught us about blogs, flickr, delicious, wikis, and wordlines. These were the greatest ways of communicating with the class and communicating your ideas to other people. Wikis were a way of helping and changing another person’s work to have them achieve the best wiki information available. Flickr contained so many pictures that could be uploaded to any site just by giving the person who took the picture credit.

Well beyond learning those skills, I learned more about globalization than I ever thought I could. I learned about outsourcing (companies moving their jobs out of the country) and uploading where the internet is now where the ultimate source of information.

I actually thought Globalization was about America losing jobs and companies going eleswhere.  I didn’t realize it was about jobs in other countries gaining the jobs.  This is helping prices in America stay low and economies in other countries becoming better because of it.  I also did not know about how economics can explain everything about prices, demand, surplus, and supply.  Now everything just seems simpler to understand and possibly with a business major, economics will work splendidly for me.

In my first post I talked about how much I wanted to learn in globalization and I was looking foward to the next class.
I was always wondering every class what we were going to learn. I still want to learn more about this subject and I will when this class ends as well.

Dr. Greenlaw, you are a great professor and this class was intense but very intersting and insightful. This was a great class.

Government Wikis

It is really interesting that the Government is taking such a huge risk to start their own wiki program. I guess its a great way to communicate. Although what if they put decoy wikis to distract the hacker and force him out of the decoy wikis and hype up protection.

World resources

I found an article a couple days ago and it said that if we consume earth’s resources at the rate we are going, they will be gone by 2050. I know that seems far away but we will only be 60 or so years old. That is terrible. The population of mammals and fish have gone down 30% because of global warming and everything. I will tag the article and attach it to here.

Economics

Last class I learned about economics of free trade and opportunity cost. It was actually very interesting. It was about wine and cheese and what would be the best to be experienced in depending on how much you can exchange for. Today we are learning about Factors influencing Investment and savings involving return, risk, and convinence and knowledge. This is profound. Well what do you expect? Its Professor Greenlaw.

Critical Analysis of Sources

The book that I found is primary, fact, and popular. The perspective of the writer is globalization and world health.

McMurray, Christine, and Roy Smith. Diseases of Globaliztion: Scocioeconomic Transitions and Health. Sterling, Va: Earthscan, 2001.

Assignments

I finished a writing assigment for globalization and I’m hoping I did well. I wrote what I thought the questions should be during the class. I also took a chem exam friday and I wrote a paper for English. Tons of reading to do so I have to get on that in the next few days.

Internet down and back up

Well everyone remembers the storm on friday. we all had to walk to classes in the pouring rain and as soon as we got into the classes in relief of getting out of the rain, we had to leave again. At around 5:30 pm the power at Virginia went out and it might have done that all around campus. During the storm, my roommate and I watched a DVD called My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It was so cute and i love the romance involved in it. Luckily the power came back on at around 7:30 and we could all just relax indoors. I was also able to finish washing and drying my clothes. Well the wireless internet finally came back on yesterday. Everyone in my dorm was so relieved because we were finally able to check our e-mail and blackboard. The best part is that our local internet connection came on today and all the girls in Virginia could finally do their classwork.
